Children ages 9 and up can learn basic guitar skills and knowledge. Learn fundamental guitar skills such as learning the notes on the fretboard, how to read written guitar music, the different styles and history of guitar music, chords and scales and how to play popular songs on the guitar.
Guitar playing draws from several traditions of classical, folk, flamenco, rock and jazz. Having a good foundation will allow the student to delve into each with understanding. Learning good rhythm, music reading, and understanding the fretboard and music theory, scales and chords are all part of the work required to be a complete guitar player. Of course if you just want to have fun and strum some chords with your favorite songs you can do just that!
